Merciless v 4.5 released

OK today I'm starting tests of Merciless 4.5

New features - new skins, new hats, new teams (SAS, Polish Airborne, Royal Marines, SS Sturmtruppe), class based kit loadouts, modified menus, sounds, new voices, working medic calls, enhanced gore, MG42 moveable only by sniper, gunner and antitank, Vickers MMG moveable only by gunner.

Lots of older crap removed to reduce download.

You need the following 4 files (will zshare soon):

please go into your call of duty/merciless_uo folder and remove any pk3 files in there (keep your config and hunkusage files to keep your name and control settings etc.)

ok so here are some highlights of the new stuff:

Soldier has full pack, gasmask, rope, knife, etc. and lots of rifle ammo and a scrim helmet

ok a few bugs noticed so far:

1/ no medic calls on bonneville, aquitaine, wolfsquare or viaduct - implying that they don't work on all custom maps atm
2/ too many visible models complaints from server log - may need to reduce zombietime (amount of time bodies are left in map) to stop models disappearing haphazardly etc
3/ aquitaine scripted mines need removing to prevent max gamestate on that map
4/ tracer on vickers seems set at the wrong height for the crosshair
5/ US Airborne winter - had a face texture missing on wolfsquare
6/ UK airborne sleeves are still bright version, but rest is the new dusty one
7/ holding melee for mine deactivation seems to have stopped working...
8/ max gamestate on wolfsquare, viaduct, and dufresne so far
9/ the health crate seemed to stop working on bonneville/ redoktober - needs looking into
10/ as reported - the damage skins are older versions for fallschirm grey, camo and us airborne - need updating
11/ picking up the MG42 on aquitaine turns into a vickers - must be built into the map as a misc_turret instead of a misc_mg42 - will look into it.

the 999 bug on the mg's seems less obvious, especially on bocage - am i right?

the good news is that the scripts for fixing this stuff are all simple - like a 100kb patch. finding the problems is gonna take a while though. but i hope you like it in general.

any more bugs?

Just one I noticed, with Russian sniper when you look through scope the area around the circle you see out of is normally black but in this case it was black + large grey blocks. I love the mod :D :D :D

was this on dufresne by any chance? I fiddled with the fog settings on it to make it more atmospheric and less of a spawnrape-fest, the only downside is that the users of scopes/binocs will see a weird glitch on the edges of the map when viewed from one or two locations in the map. this glitch, caused by the fog fx, only happens in the zone outside the map (beyond the fog limit) where other players can't see/go anyway, so i figured it was a reasonable sacrifice...

if it was another map, let me know.

quick update:

FIXED

ok thanks, so carcasson and wolfsquare currently have max gamestate probs... i'll fix em

another bug we forgot about - the G41 and AVS36 rifles don't precache properly and sometimes (especially in round-based gametypes like SD/ RE) players spawn with no ammo...

Axis
medic gets mauser semi-auto pistol instead of gewehr
sniper gets scoped G43
Gunner gets MG42 instead of FG42
Gunner gets scoped MP44 instead of MP44
Engineer gets silent walther instead of gewehr
Engineer gets FG42 instead of MP44
Antitank gets M18 instead of silent walther

American
Soldier gets revamped carbine and tommy
Soldier gets garand instead of greasegun
medic gets garand instead of carbine
Sniper gets scoped garand
Engineer gets scoped carbine instead of garand
Antitank gets revamped tommy2

Brit
Soldier gets revamped carbine

Soldier: Springfield (unscoped), new Carbine, new Tommy, new Garand
Medic: Springfield (unscoped), new Carbine
Sniper: Springfield (unscoped), Springfield (scoped), new scoped Garand
Gunner: 30 cal, deployable BAR
Engineer: Greasegun, scoped carbine
Antitank: flamer, new bazooka, new drum Tommy

Brit
Soldier: new enfield, new Carbine, sten, new UD42
Medic: new enfield, new Carbine
Sniper: new enfield, new scoped Carbine, new enfield scoped
Gunner: 30 cal, new deployable BREN
Engineer: silent sten, new De Lisle slilent carbine
Antitank: flamer, new PIAT, sten mk5

the new carbine is a woodstock version of the original para model. the para model and the unpopular M2 are off the menu
most of the new models like the garand/ enfield/ mp40/ tommy etc are from COD2

nope i took off the M2 after fairly universal negative feedback

anyway, it'll be on for testing monday 8 september so come check it out for yourself.

my faves: the de lisle, garand and carbine...
